How do I become a member of Pavo Baptist Church?

Pavo Baptist Church Greeting

We want to welcome you to Pavo Baptist Church.  We hope you have visited our church and found a warm welcoming church where you would want to worship God.  If you have not visited us we gladly welcome you to join us.  Our service times are listed on our website.  Perhaps you have been thinking about joining Pavo Baptist Church; however you are not sure what is involved in becoming a member.  Please let us share with you how to join our church and meaning of church membership.

Joining The Church:

Three Ways to Receive Members

 .

1) New Christians

 .

One who has made the decision to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

  • He or she will come forward at close of any regular worship service
  • Candidate should tell the pastor about the decision to trust Jesus Christ as Savior
  • Pastor will introduce candidate to church family who will rejoice in the decision
  • Baptism service will be scheduled

.

2) Transfer of Membership

 .

Individual may be a member of another Southern Baptist Church.

  • He or she will present self as a candidate for membership by transfer of letter at the close of any regular worship service.
  • Candidate should tell the pastor that he or she wishes to join the church by transfer of letter.
  • Pastor will introduce candidate to church family who will rejoice in the decision
  • A letter card is sent by the candidate’s current church, stating that a transfer of membership has been granted to this church.
  • Only Southern Baptists may join by letter. Non-Southern Baptist churches do not grant transfers to us, nor do we seek to obtain such transfers.

.

3) Statement of Previous Profession of Faith and Baptism by Immersion

 .

  • He or she will present one’s self as a candidate for membership by “Statement of Faith” or for “Baptism by Immersion” to the pastor at the close of any regular worship service.
  • Pastor will introduce candidate to church family who will rejoice in the decision.
  • A candidate may be a member of an evangelical church which proclaims the Gospel and immerses those who profess faith in Christ.
  • This candidate may join by “Statement of Faith”, and baptism is not necessary since he/she has already been immersed as a believer in Jesus Christ.
  • Candidates from other denominations who have not been immersed will be received for baptism rather than by Statement of Faith.
  • Southern Baptists coming from churches that have disbanded and cannot grant letters will be received by Statement of Faith.

.

You are encouraged to discuss questions about membership with the Pastor. He can clearly explain the manner in which you should join the church. If you are not a Southern Baptist, he can give you more information on our beliefs and practices.

 .

When presenting yourself for membership, tell the pastor your reason for coming, by letter, statement or baptism. You will be asked to complete a card when you join, our Church Clerk will be available to assist you.

 .
